This painting was inspired, in part, by the book Images of Earth and Spirit: A Resurgence Art Anthology, edited by John Lane and Satish Kumar. The book features artwork published in Resurgence magazine.
I intended to create a painting that explored a connection between Earth and Spirit and celebrated this relationship.
I worked on this slowly over the past year, often adding an animal, flower, or plant after seeing them on walks in Freiburg, Germany. The image above is the final result, the one below shows the painting in progress.
Rachel Long is a painter and theatre artist from Austin, Texas, currently living in Germany. She studied visual art at The University of Texas at Austin and theatre acting at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. She is currently a Poetics of Imagination MA student at Dartington Arts School.
